When you first meet Kathleen, you don’t realize that you’re actually meeting with a corporate attorney, mediator, board chairman, community leader and real estate broker. It’s a life arc of experience that, paired with a passion for living in the Vail Valley, makes for a winning combination.
Kathleen is a multi-generation Colorado native. And, in a state that’s seen a lot of newcomers in the past 20 years, that gives her a very special perspective. As a girl growing up in the 1960’s she spent weekends and holidays at her family’s Vail home and, for several years, skied competitively for Ski Club Vail. She’s one of a handful of valley real estate pros who’s seen an incredible change take place from a small mountain ski community to a world-class, top-of-the-list resort destination.
Truly a “Colorado girl,” Kathleen received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and law degree from the University of Denver College of Law. In her city life, she practiced corporate and transactional law for 20+ years primarily at Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) in multiple positions that included Corporate Secretary and Associate General Counsel.
In 2000 she made a choice, as have many others, to trade in a corporate life of high rises and office parks for ski runs with knee deep powder, whitewater canyons for rafting and alpine passes for biking. And in returning to the valley she found a place where you always ran into neighbors and friends on both the hiking trail and the supermarket. It was a change of tempo with new rewards and satisfactions as the success she found in her legal career repeated itself as a broker at Slifer, Smith & Frampton.
Kathleen’s professional and personal background offers her clients a distinctive blend of executive professionalism coupled with an insider’s knowledge of the market, real estate opportunities, and community culture. It’s a 360 degree suite of expertise that has proven invaluable to both buyers and sellers. The word “connected” quickly comes to mind as you come to appreciate Kathleen’s deep roots in the community.
Similarly, the word “committed” best describes Kathleen’s community life.
She has served on the boards and as a past Chair of the Board of Trustees of Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, past Chair of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado, and past Chair of the Board of Adams State University, following her tenure on the Board of Trustees for the State Colleges of Colorado. She has also served on the Board of Centennial Bank, and its holding company CIC Bancshares, as President of the Lake Creek Metro District and on the board of the Vail Symposium. She currently serves on the Board of Colorado Mesa University and the Lake Creek Metro District. Kathleen is a trained mediator and was a participant in the Negotiation Project at Harvard Law School.
Real estate is a person-to-person business and it’s significant that Kathleen has been recognized by her peers at Slifer Smith & Frampton over the years with several awards including:
- Standards of Excellence Award
- Mentor Award
- Community Service Award
- Perseverance Award
But for all this experience and accomplishment, talking with Kathleen is like settling back into a warm leather chair in front of a roaring lodge fire. And, somehow, when she’s not touring properties or in the middle of complicated negotiations, Kathleen finds the time to enjoy the valley from her Lake Creek Valley home along with her husband, the valley’s long time and beloved physician, Dr. Jack Eck. Throughout the year you’ll find Kathleen and Jack right in the midst of all the outdoor, cultural and social activities this special valley has to offer.
